Aoun and Khalaf call for extending UNIFIL in southern Lebanon

🔴 عاجل: MP Melhem Khalaf, heading a parliamentary delegation, called for maintaining UNIFIL’s presence to avoid any vacuum in southern Lebanon, given its role in verifying the Israeli withdrawal, preserving security and stability, and supporting the army in extending state sovereignty. He said that if extending UNIFIL’s mandate proves impossible, a UN force should be maintained in southern Lebanon under any possible format. President Joseph Aoun praised the parliamentary initiative and petition calling for an extension of the international forces, saying UNIFIL’s presence in the South is important for many reasons and helps keep residents in their villages and towns and strengthen stability in cooperation and coordination with the Lebanese army.
