Salam calls emergency meeting to discuss generator bills

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam called an emergency meeting today at 12 noon to discuss the file of electricity generators. The meeting will include the ministers of Energy and Water, Joe Saddi, and Economy and Trade, Amer Bsat, with representatives of the judiciary, along with the security agencies. The rise in electricity bills sparked wide debate among citizens yesterday, Thursday, as complaints grew over the cost of private generator bills in Lebanese neighborhoods and villages. The increase followed a tariff hike by the Energy and Water Ministry and higher consumption because of the heat, while many bills have started relying on the rates set for mountain areas in Beirut and its outskirts. A reporter said Salam asked during the meeting at the Serail to address generator bills, go all the way in holding violators accountable, and conduct immediate review of bills.
