Heikal discusses army role, UNIFIL with Finnish defense minister
Army Commander Rudolf Heikal met in his office with Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen and an accompanying delegation to discuss the current situation and developments in Lebanon and the region, especially amid the delicate phase the country is going through. They also discussed the role of the Lebanese Army, particularly in the south, and the tasks it carries out to maintain security and stability and face growing challenges, in addition to ways to strengthen its capabilities and support it. The meeting also addressed the role of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon, the importance of the tasks it performs in coordination with the Lebanese Army, and the post-UNIFIL phase. Heikal praised the role of the Finnish contingent serving within UNIFIL and appreciated the sacrifices of its members.
