IAEA to remove nuclear material from secret site in Syria

Axios: The International Atomic Energy Agency is expected to soon remove nuclear material stored at a secret site in Syria, after the Trump administration reached understandings with Syria and Israel. U.S. and Israeli officials said the material is yellowcake uranium left over from Syria’s nuclear project, which was destroyed in 2007. The sources said one facility closely monitored by Israel over the past two years is called Site 99. Two Israeli officials said the Assad regime stored nuclear material there as part of the al-Kibar reactor project, which Israel struck in Deir ez-Zor province in 2007, and that the Israeli army struck the site’s entrances shortly after the fall of the regime to prevent access. The material could be used to make a dirty bomb that would produce radiation rather than a nuclear explosion.
